Wisdom

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

There is a situation in my life which I have been struggling with lately. I have asked friends and family for advice but to no avail. It is constantly on my mind, and I am finding myself in a bit of a funk trying to figure out what I should do.

Tonight I wasn't consciously thinking of this situation, but I guess it isn't far from my mind. Anyway, I came across this verse and was immediately convicted. I've been trying to solve this dilemma on my own. I've been so caught up in the details that I've completely forgotten to ask God what HE would have me do.

Oops.

So this evening, I am spending some good quality time with Jesus. I'm not sure that I'll get the answer I want, but I do know I'm going to the one who can give me peace!

I had some great Jesus time as well today. It's amazing how quickly I too seem to sometimes put the One who is responsible for everything as my last sounding board and not my first. It will all work out, I know it will. Your the best.

Oh Lisa, I wish I could begin to tell you how often I struggle with things only to have the gentle tug on my heart telling me to turn to my Maker.

I trust you will find answers and peace. God is always faithful. Cast your cares on Him for He cares for YOU.

Love you my friend.

Well, take comfort in the fact that you're not alone in this. I tend to fall into this rut a lot too. That human mindset that I have to do everything on my own or it won't happen. I forget about the truly awesome power and infinite love of my Creator, that he promised never to leave or forsake me, that he promised to give me the desires of my heart.
Let me introduce you to a Hebrew concept... chutzpah. It means "courage", and in the slang it means "nerve". This concept first came into play in Genesis, when God promised Abram land and a child. GOD. The Creator of all things has just given a promise, and what is Abram's response? "O Lord God, how shall I know that I am to possess it?"
We would never imagine responding to God like this. But the scripture records over and over instances such as this, where people had the chutzpah to go before God and challenge him to keep his word, asking for things beyond what God said he would give them. And God loved it! He honored their chutzpah.
Remember the scripture that says to come boldly before the throne? It's referring to chutzpah. God wants you to understand that you are truly his child, and that you have the right to ask for whatever you want. Don't hold back. Don't think you have to approach him meekly saying "If you want to, can you do this for me?"
No way! Ask it with chutzpah, saying "God, you've promised this, so I'm expecting you to follow through!"
We are his children, and He loves us and desires to give us everything. And since everything is his, I think we're in good hands. :)

Anyway, a little Hebrew lesson for you. I hope it gives you the chutzpah to hold God to his promises. :)
Also, I encourage you to seek out the stories I'm talking about where chutzpah is seen in the Bible. I think you'll be amazed at how people talk to God. I know I am.

I'll be praying for you. Shalom aleichem.

Well said...I so know those "times" and "situations" when I just don't know what to do...and how my "natural tendency" can be to look to myself and others first (not intentionally) before seeking the One who created all and has all of the answers!

May our Lord grant you wisdom as you seek Him!!!

(BTW...I just came to "visit" here for the first time from MCK Mama's site...you have a cute family!!!)
